Start-up Kit

The S-STEM project can be managed with efficient execution of the following three tasks:

  1. Recruit applicants
  2. Process applications
  3. Maintain scholar's files
The processes described below are those used by the AASU College of Science and Technology in its S-STEM program.

Recruit applicants

  1. Post announcements. See sample poster.
  2. Mail letters inviting students who meet academic standards. See sample letter.
  3. Make applications available online and as hard copies. See sample application.
Process applications
  1. Verify that students meet academic criteria.
  2. Verify financial need with financial-aid office.
  3. Evaluate qualifying candidates. See sample evaluation form.
  4. Interview final candidates. See sample interview guide.
  5. Send award letters. See sample award letter.
  6. Complete the personal data sheet for each scholar.
Maintain scholar's files
  1. Each semester, verify that scholars continue to meet academic and financial criteria. See sample tracking form.
  2. Terminate scholarships for graduating scholars.
  3. Regularly track the progress of scholars who have graduated.
  4. Update data with NSF
  5. If you wish, track the related extracurricular activities of scholars throughout the year. See sample points form.
