    September 2009 Record number of scholarships awarded on the S-STEM I grant. We have a total of 45 students receiving STEM scholarships this fall. Students come from biology, chemistry, computer science, information technology, and mathematics disciplines. The program continues to build momentum in this our 8th year in a row of funding from the National Science Foundation!! Over $700,000 worth of scholarships awarded and counting!!!!!!!!!!

    Annual S-STEM report submitted by our team and accepted by the National Science Foundation.

    CSEMS II final report submitted, and the grant has now come to a conclusion. A total for about $225,000 was awarded in student scholarships over the past four years. Thanks to all of our students who made this project a very worthwhile endeavor. This scholarship amount on top of the $390,000 that was awarded in student scholarships from CSEMS I.

    S-STEM team works on plans for a new tutorial website that will be useful for scholars. The work will continue into the next year.

  • July-November 2008
    S-STEM team works to develop a new and comprehensive assessment process for the grant. Team meets with management group to seek input to the scholarship program.

    CSEMS scholar Daniel Berksteiner represented the College of Science and Technology on the cover of "Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow," Armstrong's annual report to donors. He can be seen here on the far right.

    Congratulations to CSEMS graduates who participated in commencement exercises this month! Our CSEMS graduates were Clinton Carey, Jatin Patel, Ryan Roseboro, and Robert Street.

    CSEMS scholar met for refreshments and fellowship at the Spring 2007 CSEMS semester meeting. Chris McCarthy spoke to the group about the status of the CSEMS awards, and many scholars completed their semester paperwork at the meeting.

    Chris McCarthy presented Daniel Berksteiner with the Outstanding CSEMS Scholar Award at the College of Science and Technology's Spring Banquet on April 19, 2007. Daniel has managed to increase his GPA each semester since receiving the CSEMS award three years ago, and he is an active ACM member among other things. Congratulations Daniel!

    Congratulations to our CSEMS graduates who participated in commencement activities this month! Our CSEMS graduates were Chris Childers, Chizoba Okeke, Tunishe Timmons, Justin French, Anthony Alford, Jeremiah Eisenmenger, Robb Dickerson, and Jeremy Dyal.

    Congratulations to our CSEMS graduates who participated in commencement activities this month! Our CSEMS graduates were Michael Carson, Katie Hoenshell, Mirabel Lim, Josh Early, and Kongdon Tift.

    Our outstanding CSEMS scholars for 2006 were Shawn Latta and Jatin Patel. Their awards were presented at our annual awards banquet this month.

    The 4th Annual Quiz Bowl will take place March 25, 2006. More information can be found here. This year's individual prize will either be an Xbox 360 or an iPod Nano, subject to availability. Team prizes will also be awarded, and all participants will receive a t-shirt!

    Congratulations to our CSEMS graduates who participated in commencement activities this month! Our CSEMS graduates were Lakisha Sanders, Patrick McClure, Hai Nguyen, Tommy Powell, and Alfred Rogers.

  • November 2005
    Jatin Patel, a CSEMS scholar and computer science graduate student, gave a talk on algorithm visualization at the Anne and Sigmund Hudson Mathematics/Computer Science Luncheon colloquium on November 9, 2005. In his talk, Jatin presented applets that he implemented and that are designed as teaching tools in computer-science classrooms. More specifically, the visual applets illustrated the linear and binary search as well as the selection, insertion, bubble, and heap sort. Jatin will be continuing this work as part of an independent study under the supervision of Dr. Y. Daniel Liang.
