About S-STEM

For many years Armstrong Atlantic in Savannah has provided strong programs in biology, chemistry, computer science, information technology, mathematics, and physics. For example, in 1991, the Department of Computer Science became the second computer-science program accredited in the state of Georgia; the program was among the first hundred accredited in the United States. The chemistry degree is certified by the American Chemical Society defining it as a high quality undergraduate program. Having a typical class size of less than twenty and an in-state undergraduate per semester cost of $5,354 for tuition, room and board, and fees for undergraduates, Armstrong Atlantic offers one of the best educational values in bioloby, chemistry, computer science, information technology,mathematics, or physics in the country. Armstrong Atlantic's student body is 70% female, 30% male, and 30% of all students are minorities. Many of these students are unable to remain in school due to pressures from jobs, family difficulties, or lack of financial resources.

The S-STEM project has and will continue to change the lives of talented individuals by providing scholarships so that they can pursue their studies full-time. The end result will be to increase the number of American high technology workers, and in turn help Armstrong improve its student support and educational opportunities, and strengthen its relationship with the larger technological industry. The exceptional laboratory and computing facilities and faculty in the Departments of Bioloby, Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, and Physics, the large pool of qualified students, including many women and minorities, and the proven leadership skills of the Principal Investigators represent a perfect match between Armstrong Atlantic and the S-STEM program.
